Flight Path
Date: 1972
Size: 35in x 23in
Material: Oil on board
The inspiration came from watching Storm Petrols skimming waves. The title Flight Path arose from a discussion I had with an old Spitfire pilot who likened the painting to his experiences of low level flying.

Falconry Furniture
Date: 1974
Size: 17in x 26in
Material: Oil on board
This painting was an exercise in composition and texture. Memories typically become associated with each piece of art. This painting was undertaken in evenings at my mother’s house, to avoid an asthma reaction from the oil paint to a close friend in my accommodation. One evening, while riding my motorcycle back from my mother’s home, I was stopped by the police, who caught me riding without either a license or insurance. Fifty years on, I am still waiting to hear further from the police!

Fruit and Flowers Still Life
Date: 1983
Size: 16in x 24in
Material: Oil on canvas
I used to create a lot of still life images to keep my eye in, working on different textures and compositions. I sold many still life paintings, but regretfully, I didn't keep a record of them all.

Reticulum
Date: 1983
Size: 24in x 40in
Material: Egg tempera on a gessoed panel
The shells reminded me of asteroids floating in space. The title I gave to the painting, Reticulum (The Net), is a small but distinctive constellation in the southern sky. The smallest shell in the lower right of the painting has a movement trace in the image of a spaceship.

Primroses
Date: 1994
Size: 12in x 16in
Material: Oil on canvas
I love primroses. They are a sign of the arrival of spring and look so cheerful. I have a passion for natural history, and I often reflect this by including botanical images in paintings where the plants are the correct background for the image. Botanical images also make for a more decorative painting.

Flying Dragons Tattoo Design
Date: 2010
Scotty Allen, a Canadian, asked me to create an image of a dragon flying from a hang glider. Scotty was part of a team of hang glider enthusiasts who called themselves the “Flying Dragons.” Scotty took the image to a tattoo artist who reproduced the image on his chest.

Sheri’s Mountain
Date: 2011
Size: 24in x 30in
Material: Oil on canvas
Bob and Sheri Ashley have a house in Portal, Arizona, which has a view of the Chiricahua Mountains. In the evenings when I stayed with Bob and Sheri, we would sit out on the patio eating and drinking, looking at the fantastic sunsets over the mountains. These inspired me to do the sunset painting, which I called Sheri’s Mountain.
